Squeaky nut on Y Axis

Hi,

We have three pocket NC in the University Makerspace that I’m responsible for. One of the machines (a V2-10) has developed a nasty grinding screech from the Y axis leadscrew nut.

I’ve cleaned the leadscrew thoroughly with IPA had the problem resolve temporarily. It has now come back though, & I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to go about resolving it.

Cheers,
Jay

Hello Jay,

The first thing to try is applying synthetic grease to the anti-backlash nut and the hole (or bushing) the lead screw rests in.

If the noise persists, then contact us at service@pocketnc.com for more troubleshooting steps.

That’s brilliant - thanks Chuck.

Cheers,
James.

I am having this issue too. I am guessing the anti-backlash nut is the white plastic clad component that attaches the carriage to the lead screw.

Anybody with experience of/guidance for accessing this on a V2-50 while it is still in the enclosure?
Any pictures of the process?

There is no need to access the nut directly. Applying a very light amount of oil or light grease to the length of lead screw you can access will produce the same result.

Ideally, you start by only putting grease on the end of the lead screw where it is captured in the body of the machine so that you are not increasing the likelihood of chips and debris sticking to the lead screw and working their way into the anti-backlash nut. But if that does not do the trick, taking the steps mentioned above will likely help.

Thanks, will try this.

Cleaned any chips out of the way and applied tiny spritz of dry lubricant (teflon flake spray) as close as I could to the area where the squeaks happened. All is good now!
